Tight Lines Fish Group, LLC offers this Backwater Fishing School at the newly restored Tarpon Lodge
on beautiful Pine Island along Florida’s Gulf Coast. The School offers students an in-depth
curriculum on all aspects of backwater, inshore and coastal sport fishing activities. Relax and
learn while experiencing the “Old World Charm” of historic Tarpon Lodge with its panoramic water
views of Captiva, Sanibel, Useppa and Boca Grande while located just forty-five minutes from the Southwest
Florida International Airport at Ft. Myers. The waters surround pre-Columbian Indian mounds of the ancient Calusa
civilization while harboring schools of redfish, speckled trout, kingfish, snook and tarpon.
This School is a comprehensive three-day, four night saltwater fishing adventure designed to teach students basic through advanced light tackle sport fishing skills.
School Sessions are taught by fishing instructors, as well as licensed charter Captains and guides who make their living fishing for and catching the many species inhabiting the local waters.
The School curriculum includes three days of “hands on” instruction using top-of-the-line tackle from the finest inshore, near shore and bay boats available. All licensing, fishing equipment and tackle are included.
TACKLE
All tackle and fishing equipment available for the student’s use is from premier providers.
The expansive green lawns and docks of the Lodge offer ample practice area for the novice or those
who wish to hone their skills during practice sessions. History reveals some great “fish stories”
from these practice times. Whether bait casting, spin fishing or light trolling, tackle used in the
Schools will be similar to that available in the students home area.
NAVIGATION & ELECTRONICS
State-of-the art electronic instrumentation applicable to the instructional vessels will be on board with
the emphasis on affordable equipment. Your instructor will provide the opportunity to familiarize yourself
with the equipment utilized during the School.
The Backwater Fishing School will provide you with the necessary techniques to finding fish and
how to catch them, as well as acquaint you with the most effective ways of using fishing equipment
and tackle whether light tackle for shallow water species or heavier equipment for tarpon. Some of
the topics covered at the School include:
- tackle selection and preparation,
- live bait and artificial techniques,
- fish habits vs. angler habits,
- terminal end (knots),
- light tackle casting techniques
- environmental and conservation programs
Additionally, there will be instruction in:
- boating safety,
- basic first aid
- accident prevention,
- trip preparation,
- basic navigation
- rules of the road.
U.S.C.G. licensed guides and instructors will review current Coast Guard regulations and procedures.
The mission of the Ultimate Backwater Fishing School is to introduce you to the fun of fishing or
enhance your current skills for greater enjoyment and conservation of our saltwater fisheries.
