Battlefield Earth (2000)
Based on the first half of L. Ron Hubbard’s thousand-page novel of the same name (itself widely panned by critics), starring John Travolta, Forest Whitaker, and Barry Pepper, this film had the third worst 3,000-plus-theater opening weekend up to that time. It was criticized for its poor script, hammy acting by Travolta, overuse of tilted camera angles, laughable dialogue, and several plot inconsistencies. More than one reviewer called the film “Travolting”.[32] Rob Vaux called the film a “crime against celluloid”.[33] Roger Ebert predicted that the film “for decades to come will be the punch line of jokes about bad movies.”[34] It is also on his “most hated” list.[35] The film has a 2% rating at Rotten Tomatoes,[36] and was included in their Top 100 worst reviewed movies of the last 10 years.[37] It won seven Golden Raspberry Awards, including Worst Picture and Worst Screen Couple (John Travolta and “anyone on the screen with him”).[38] In 2005, an eighth Razzie (for Worst “Drama” of Our First 25 Years) was awarded to the film.[39] The movie also appeared on Metacritic’s list of the all-time lowest-scoring films,[40] is on the MRQE’s 50 Worst Movies list,[41] and is currently #1 on the Bottom 200 movie list at Everyone’s a Critic.[20] Maxim magazine printed, “Even Quentin Tarantino couldn’t revive Travolta’s career after this movie.”
[edit] House of the Dead (2003)
Directed by Uwe Boll, the film is an adaptation of the 1996 Sega arcade game of the same name, and was notorious for using footage from the videogame in the movie. Both critics and fans of the genre widely rejected the film. The movie is on the Bottom 100 list at the Internet Movie Database,[12] and is currently #2 on the Bottom 200 movie list at Everyone’s a Critic.[20] It also appeared on Metacritic’s list of the all-time lowest-scoring films,[40] is in the Top Ten on the MRQE’s 50 Worst Movies list,[41] and holds a 4% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.[42] Said one reviewer on the site: “If you want to see what a cinematic piece of dog barf looks like, go see House of the Dead, otherwise do yourself a favour and play the video game, it’s far more entertaining.”[43] Despite negative reviews, it spawned a direct-to-video sequel in 2006, House of the Dead 2, which was also panned by critics. In 2009, Time listed the film on their list of top ten worst video games movies.[44]
[edit] Catwoman (2004)
Based on the DC Comics character and starring Halle Berry, the film retains next to nothing of the Batman antagonist and the source material. In the movie, Catwoman has actual superpowers, which she lacks in the comics. The lycra catsuit was replaced with slashed leather pants, a bra, and a mask, which also acts as a hat, and she leaps from rooftop to rooftop in stiletto heels. As the movie character differs so widely from her comic book source, the character, as portrayed in this film, has been cited as “Catwoman In Name Only”.[45] It has a 9% rating at Rotten Tomatoes,[46] and was declared “arguably the worst superhero film ever made” by the Orlando Sentinel. The Village Voice summed up reviews of the film under the title “Me-Ouch.”[47] The movie was the winner of four Razzies for Worst Picture, Worst Actress, Worst Director (Pitof), and Worst Screenplay.[48] Berry arrived at the ceremony to accept her Razzie in person (with her Best Actress Oscar for Monster’s Ball in hand), saying: “First of all, I want to thank Warner Brothers. Thank you for putting me in a piece of shit, god-awful movie . . . It was just what my career needed.”[49] It is currently in the Top 10 of the Bottom 200 movie list at Everyone’s a Critic,[20] and is on Roger Ebert’s “most hated” list.[35]
[edit] Alone in the Dark (2005)
Loosely based on a series of video games by Infogrames, and directed by Uwe Boll. Critics from Variety, The Village Voice and various Internet movie sites panned it for a multitude of reasons, including poor script and production values, overuse of slow-motion and quick cuts to optimize the gory content, almost no connection to the game, and bad acting. One review said the movie was “so poorly built, so horribly acted and so sloppily stitched together that it’s not even at the straight-to-DVD level.”[50] The movie has received a 1% rating at Rotten Tomatoes,[51] and was included in their Top 100 worst reviewed movies of the last 10 years.[37] Critic Rob Vaux states that this movie is so bad that “the other practitioners of cinematic drivel can rest a little easier now; they can walk in the daylight with their heads held high, a smile on their lips and a song in their hearts. It’s okay, they’ll tell themselves. I didn’t make Alone in the Dark.”[52] Screenwriter Blair Erickson wrote about his experience dealing with Boll and his original script, which was closer to the actual game itself, and Boll’s script change demands on the comedy website Something Awful.[53] The movie is currently in the Top 10 on the Bottom 200 movie list

Comments Off Question by Chan: What are short term consequences in recreational activities that is caused by recycling?
Best answer:
Answer by jwass52
Wikipedia says “Consequences is a game”
I have heard “for every action there is a reaction and for every positive their is a negative”. In chemistry we learn that everything natural tries to maintain some level of equalibrium or seek a balance. If the rays from the sun that heat the earth did not escape, then the world would burn up.
So with that being said their should be a short term consequence in recreational activities that is caused by recycling, but right now I could not tell you.
good luck

Comments Off Question by Haruka: How much does the Yosemite Recreation Center swimming pool cost for admission?
Here’s the address:
1840 Yosemite Dr., Los Angeles, CA 90041
This is NOT the Yosemite Lodge or National Park
Best answer:
Answer by lib.rare.ian
“Our heated outdoor swimming pool is open daily from Memorial Day through Labor Day, conditions permitting. The pool is available for the use of guests of Yosemite Lodge at the Falls at no charge and to other Yosemite guests for $ 5/adult and $ 4/child.”
In my experience the pool was always crowded with off-duty staff with bad attitudes (thought the pool belonged to them, and the guests weren’t welcome). Hope this has changed for your visit.

I was always told to dress for the job. So should I wear khakis and a nice dress shirt? Low heels? The other manager wears khakis and the Rec Ctr polo or oxford to work.

You should always project a professional appearance no matter what the position is you are interviewing for. I would suggest nothing less than dress slacks and a nice button down shirt. Good luck.

Question by Paul P: Does an employer have the right to force an employee to participate in a recreation sport?
A friend (a pastor) I know works for a large bug killer organization (Orkin, Charleston, WV). He has been told that in August, 2009, he MUST attend a trip to Beckley, WV and participate in a white-water raft adventure. In fact, he protested the activity but was told, “You’ll do what I tell you to do.” HIs boss made his position unmistakeably clear. My friend was confused as to what this had to do with anything related to the business of pest control but was, again, met with the stern rebuff that he must do this. Period. Now, my friend is close to 60 years of age. He has arthritis, as well. Anyway, any legal minds out there that can advise on this matter? Thanks.
Interesting (and varied) responses, thus far. Of note is the fact that this employee is their top saleman (yet is NEVER recognized for it….no, instead, they — politics as usual — recognize the second top salesman). Also of note is the fact that my friend cannot swim (and has informed them of this lack of skill…it made no difference). Hmmm, as to “get on board” and “team work skillbuilding,” well, if one doesn’t show that at work and show that by being the top salesman (recognized or not), well, to me, they’ll never see it then. Too, it sounds like another entity trespassing into one’s personal life and time. Just another excuse to do so. Japanese management has had this problem in the past (still does that I know of) and the death rate was very high due to it. If state, local, and federal governments aren’t enough into our lives, now we must contend with employers doing so? As to arthritic “theapy” hinted, this assumes prepared prereadiness training (not cold turkey).
Best answer:
Answer by David C
no they do not. Although, WV is a right to work state and you can be fired for any reason.
Unless they plan on paying employees for the activity, employees cannot be forced to attend. Even then, they cannot be forced to participate.
